POTRETS
The urban mod youth The mod style in this section is popular among young adults (late teens to mid-20s). The bangs are long enough to cover either the left or right side of the eye region. Follow these steps to draw the urban mod youth:
 1. Lightly sketch the helmet-like hair shape over the head as well as the curve for the bangs that cross over the right eye (as shown in Figure 6-13a).
The sides of the hair taper off at the bottom of the ear region (ears are completely cov- ered by this hairstyle and don’t show).
 2. As shown in Figure 6-13b, refine the jagged shapes of the hair’s edges by using darker lines over the lighter shapes you make in Step 1.
I draw the jagged shapes of the hair on the sides and the front. The top portion of the hair is, for the most part, round and smooth.
 3. Sketch the zigzag highlight patterns on the sides and front of the bangs before shad- ing the darkest value of the hair (see Figure 6-13c).
By sketching the highlights, you don’t have to worry about wasting your energy by forcefully erasing to create them later.
